An outdoor theater experience, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival has had it’s home in Garrison, NY since 1987. Their shows are critically acclaimed (The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal), often taking classical theater and turning it on it’s head. The Festival has established a reputation for lucid, engaging, and highly inventive productions staged under an iconic, open-air Theater Tent overlooking the Hudson River at historic Boscobel House and Gardens. In recent years, the Festival has also ventured beyond the Tent, touring its work to other venues throughout the Hudson Valley, transferring productions to other theaters, engaging its community through radically participatory art-making, and reaching over 60,000 students and educators annually through its year-round Education programs.

In 2022 the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival will begin its next chapter with a permanent home gifted by philanthropist Christopher Davis. The new location will offer HVSF the long-term stability of a secure foundation and will serve as a year-round resource for theater artists, audiences, and the entire Hudson Valley community.

The theater will rebuild its iconic tent as a permanent open-air structure and plans to commence performances at its new location in the summer of 2022. HVSF will perform its final season at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison in the summer of 2021. More than just a home for the theater company, HVSF envisions the campus as a gathering space for the community, a model for environmental sustainability in the performing arts, and a resource for other non-profit organizations.

Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival is the recipient of the 2021 Keystone Award, given to the business who holds open the door for economic growth in the area through hospitality and tourism. With over thirty years of providing world class theatrical arts in the Hudson Valley, drawing visitors from around the world to appreciate and enjoy the natural beauty and cultural arts available, here in Philipstown, we are proud to celebrate Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival with this award.
