A Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce Initiative
Commercial Food Scrap Recycling Pilot
A practical way for local businesses to keep food scraps out of landfills.
The Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Philipstown, the Philipstown Climate Smart Task Force, and the nonprofit CET, has launched a pilot program making it easy and affordable for local businesses and institutions to recycle their food scraps into compost, substantially reducing our community's carbon footprint.
Program News
The pilot has been awarded a New York State grant to extend and expand the program. Secured with the support of Assemblymember Dana Levenberg's office, the new funding will allow the pilot to grow to 10 participating businesses and organizations and cover a full year of food scrap collection service. There has never been a better time to join.
What It Is
A commercial food scrap pickup service for restaurants, schools, markets, and other organizations in Philipstown. Scraps are collected by CRP Sanitation, a regional organics hauler, and processed into compost at a nearby facility. Several local businesses and organizations have already signed on and begun composting.
Who It's For
Any Philipstown business or institution that generates food scraps — restaurants, cafés, schools, specialty shops, institutions, caterers, and more. No prior composting experience is needed; the program is designed to fit into your existing kitchen routine.
What Participants Get
- Weekly or biweekly scheduled pickup of food scraps by CRP Sanitation
- Technical and logistical support from the nonprofit CET (Center for EcoTechnology)
- Opportunity to apply for pilot program funding
- Inclusion in Chamber marketing so customers know you're participating
- A measurable reduction in landfill or incinerator-bound trash and greenhouse gas emissions
